Hanoi (VNA) – A proposal was sent to the Ministry of Transport requesting the evaluation of a feasibility report on the construction of the Can Tho–Hau Giang section as part of the eastern route of the North-South Highway.

Located in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho – Hau Giang The expressway consists of the main road from the road connecting National Roads 1 and 91 to National Road 61B, and the roads connecting it to Nam Song Hau Road and National Road 1.

According to the feasibility report, the project has a total investment of nearly VND 9.99 trillion (USD 429.86 million), of which nearly VND 1.76 trillion would be spent on clearance of the site and more than 6, 8 trillion VND for construction and design. The amount is up by VND 225.19 billion from the approved investment policy for the project, due to the addition of a road connecting the IC2 intersection to National Road 1 and discounted costs.

Most of the 37.65 km main road will be in Hau Giang (37.05 km) while the rest (0.6 km) in the town of Can Thoaccording to the proposal.

An intelligent transport system should be installed on the toll road project.

If approved, the project would start in the last quarter of 2022 and become operational in 2026.

Together with the Ho-Chi-Minh-City-Trung Luong-My Thuan-Can Tho highway, the new road is expected to give new impetus to the development of the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho and Hau Giang in particular./.
