For a total of 2 hours and 47 minutes until 11:47 a.m., all Applegreen locations reduced the price per liter of fuel by 24.7 cents.
And as inflation hits the country, people have welcomed the temporary change with costs below €1.80 for the first time in weeks.
Many have taken to Twitter in awe of the “absolutely crazy queues” at some stores.
One said: ‘Applegreen in Birr had petrol and diesel for 1.77/8 this morning…absolutely crazy queues.’
Another driver added: “There are going to be a lot of disappointed people queuing for Applegreen fuel today.
“I had to make my way back home when I saw the queue on Clonmel/Dungarvan Road. I didn’t bother queuing myself as the reservoir was almost full.”
A third driver warned people not to bother to take advantage of the sale with traffic causing chaos around many Applegreen stores.
He said: “If you’re thinking of going out and taking advantage of the Applegreen fuel flash sale, think again.
